Only discovered in the wild in 2011, Cuora picturata becomes rarer every day due to heavy exploitation, but also rampant habitat destruction. Setting up assurance colonies while there is still sufficient genetic variability existing is imperative. This species is reported to be difficult to breed in captivity, but the conditions our Center offers seem to suit our specimens: our founders' breeding rewarded us with excellent hatching success in 2019. Let's hope 2020 will make it a trend.
